The Perfect Monday

It’s Monday morning. After a weekend where focus has been on family and leisure it is now time to refocus on the job in front of you. You have brought the positive attitude with you and you are confident that this is going to be a great week – as soon as you get started and get into the flow of work.

But the task you were planning to get started has to wait because the information you were promised to be ready Friday is not yet available. Your plan B (from experience you always have at least one alternative to jump to) will also have to wait because the material you need was delayed and may not arrive before tomorrow.

So, what now ? – should you do what you can and leave unfinished tasks for later, or jump to something else ? This week is already beginning to drain your energy level – and it is still just Monday morning ! But – what if everything was ready and prepared and you already at this point would be more or less through your first task ? What if promises were fulfilled and plans were respected ?

What if your workday was perfect ?  – Can you even describe how YOUR “Perfect Day” should look?:

•Your manager greats you with a smile and a “Good morning”

•Your colleagues are smiling and looking forward to the week

•Your tasks are important for you and everything you need is available

•You get feed back on your completed tasks

•You are being asked about ideas on how your workplace could improve

•…. Please continue the list to your preferences

The “Perfect Day” exercise is a very effective way to brainstorm on what could be improved. Allow yourself to eliminate all the daily restrictions and dream about the perfect “unrealistic” scenario.

But why is this scenario unrealistic.? What needs to change to get to say 80% or 90% of perfect- How much would that add to your wellbeing and productivity ?

Nobody can make the day perfect all by themselves. But as a team – as an organization you can .
