Forever young – with LEAN

  What depicts a small start-up company ?:

•Customer insight and focus throughout the organization

•Clearly defined direction from the top (typically the owner)

•Fast decision making and fast reaction to changes

•Knowledge and capabilities are embedded in individuals or teams

•Success is shared

Does this sound familiar ? I guess you could depict a LEAN company with exactly the same words. So does this mean that a small company per definition is LEAN? – No, the lack of formalised structures and standards makes it clear that we are not talking about a LEAN system. But we can learn a lot from these small dynamic start-ups which are often very competitive and agile compared to their larger and more mature counterparts.

Imagine you could maintain the characteristics from the start-up years when the company grows. What was just “common sense” in the small start-up business lead by an idealistic and visionary founder becomes so much more complex and slow when the organisation grows, the product portfolio and customer base explodes etc.

Can my company be forever young ? The good news is – “Yes it can”. By applying LEAN systems.

We often talk about large companies ending up as dinosaurs. Huge, heavy, stupid and doomed for extinction. But big can also be strong, powerfull, smart and fast. What road of evolution will you follow ?
